New Tablet, nay, a Monitor!

Here's a rather funny fact for you: I used to draw on a Samsung Galaxy Tab! But instead of drawing on illustration Android apps, I hooked it up to a computer with the SuperDisplay app. It has worked for me for a while, but it started to act weird. Often times it refused to connect to my PC when my graphics card’s driver needed an update and I didn't know. Or, could be, because the app didn't feel like working, unless the tablet is rebooted.

And it's been this way for the past few months now, more so after I upgraded to a fancy RTX 3090 Ti card. Y’know, the one that killed some power supplies that turned out to be too underpowered for it.

So, I did what I thought was a logical solution to this annoyance, and bought myself a VEIKK branded tablet - the Studio VK1200. And apparently it's a more affordable monitor-screen type tablet that's available for sale.

So far, I actually like this thing! It does what it's designed for, I got nothing else to say. It functions, it does it's job well enough, and… that's all I got to say about the positives. I like this fella!

Another cool thing about it is that it's compatible not only with Windows, but also Mac OS, Linux, and…

I shit you not - Android and Chrome OS of all things.

But I don't own a Mac, and I don't use my phone for drawing anyway, BUT! The tablet-monitor works SURPRISINGLY DAMN WELL on the Steam Deck!

But there was a small issue I had to tackle:

VEIKK offer their tablets’ Linux driver in both RPM and DEB formats, and SteamOS treats them differently.

I couldn't install the driver through pacman. The issue there was them “missing package metadata”, apparently. So I had to extract the package contents and boot up the vktablet.desktop executable located in the following folder/path:

usr/lib/vktablet

After doing so and calibrating the tablet, the tablet still works wonderfully! Like, god damn!

...I may wanna make more space for this or get a second smaller table, though. 🙃
